First developed by French chemist Henri Victor Regnault in 1840 by isolating DCM from a mixture of chloromethane and chlorine that was exposed to sunlight. Methylene Chloride suppliers provide DCM as a paint stripper and a degreaser. In the food industry, it is used to decaffeinate coffee and tea and prepare extracts of hops and other flavorings. DCM is used as aerosol spray propellant and as a blowing agent for polyurethane foams as it is specially inhibited and reduces the potential for discoloration and scorching of foam due to the heat generated in the polyurethane reaction.
